Top 50 Most-Followed Twitter (X) Accounts

Who has the most followers on Twitter? Elon Musk leads the accounts in this snapshot, followed by a mix of politicians, musicians, athletes and media organizations. The list below puts their audiences in order and explains what you will actually find in each feed.

Twitter is now X, but the familiar names still dominate its largest audiences. Use the topic filter to separate sports and entertainment from news, politics and technology. Counts were collected on October 8, 2026; this is a dated comparison, not a live leaderboard.

The 50 accounts

50 of 50 accounts · Ordered by follower count

The biggest account is not always the most useful follow

A celebrity feed can be quiet between releases. A news outlet may publish dozens of alerts while you are away. Both can have enormous audiences, but they serve different purposes. Follow the person for their perspective, the organization for its reporting, or a team for match coverage.

Several names have more than one legitimate feed. BTS has a member-facing account and an official promotional account; CNN separates general coverage from breaking news. They occupy different positions here because follower counts belong to accounts, not to a combined person or brand.

What follower rankings leave out

Follower totals accumulate over years. They include people who no longer use the platform and say nothing by themselves about audience authenticity, location or buying intent. A much smaller specialist can be a better source for your work than an international celebrity.

If you are researching potential collaborators, read their latest original posts and the replies beneath them. Check whether the people joining the discussion resemble the audience you want to reach. This table is a starting point for discovery, not a media-buying rate card.

How we selected and ranked these accounts

We started with the public list of most-followed X accounts, added other large celebrity, sports and brand accounts for comparison, then retrieved profile counts and selected the 50 largest available records in that candidate set. This is a researched snapshot, not an exhaustive query of every account on X. Both individuals and organizations are included, and distinct official feeds can appear separately.

Every selected account had at least 10,000 followers when checked.

We checked public profile records and, where available, sampled timeline results. Profile photos and follower totals are a snapshot collected on October 8, 2026 through the public FxTwitter API. Display names are edited for clarity. These are third-party readings of X profiles, not audited audience measurements. Numbers and handles can change after the check.

Entries are ordered by follower count, highest first. That ordering does not measure accuracy, audience authenticity, engagement or how often an account posts. The descriptions are editorial summaries; inclusion is not an endorsement of every post or a guarantee of future activity.
