Twitter GIF to GIF, or save as MP4?
Animated media from X often comes back as an MP4 file, even when the post calls it a GIF. An MP4 and an animated GIF are different formats. Changing a filename does not change the format.
Choose GIF for an animated image
Create GIF makes a real looping image you can use where .gif files are accepted. You choose the clip, dimensions and frame rate. The conversion removes audio and reduces the color palette, so it is not a lossless copy of the video. GIFs can also be larger than the original MP4.
Choose MP4 for the source video
Save MP4 downloads the selected source file without re-encoding it, preserving any sound and the supplied quality. It saves the full source rather than your GIF trim. For more video download options, use our Twitter Video Downloader.
Download Twitter GIFs on iPhone, Android and desktop
Copy the post link in the X app, open this page in your browser and paste the link. After conversion, select Download GIF and check the browser’s download list or Files app. If your device opens a viewer, use its available Save or Share controls.
On a phone, start with 240 or 360 pixels and a short clip. Conversion uses your device’s memory and processing power, so keep the tab open. You can cancel an active conversion. On desktop, the same controls work with a mouse and keyboard; no extension is required.
Make your Twitter GIF smaller
Shorten the clip first, then reduce the longest edge or frame rate. A 240-pixel GIF at 5 frames per second generally needs less data than the same clip at 480 pixels and 15 frames per second. Motion and image detail also affect the final size, so check the file size shown with your finished preview.
Portrait and landscape clips keep their proportions. The size setting caps the longest edge and never enlarges a smaller source. The result loops continuously and has no sound. If you need the smallest file with better video quality, keeping the MP4 may be more suitable.
What this GIF downloader supports
The tool accepts public X and Twitter post links, including supported GIF and video attachments inside quoted posts. If a post contains multiple attachments, select one in the editor. It does not sign in to X, unlock protected accounts or convert external website players.
GIF conversion is limited to 10 seconds, a 25 MB source file and a 20 MB output. Save MP4 supports source files up to 100 MB. Media is fetched from X’s media servers directly to your browser; the GIF is created locally. Source availability, browser support and shared lookup limits can affect whether a post works.
Twitter GIF downloader questions
How do I download a GIF from Twitter or X?
Copy the link to the post, paste it above and select Find GIF. Choose your start time, clip length, size and frame rate, then select Create GIF. When the animated preview is ready, select Download GIF to save an actual .gif file. You can also save the source MP4.
Why do Twitter GIFs download as MP4?
Animated GIF attachments retrieved from X commonly arrive as MP4 video files. Our Save MP4 button preserves that source file. Create GIF decodes its frames and encodes a separate looping GIF in your browser; simply renaming .mp4 to .gif would not convert it.
Is this a free Twitter GIF downloader?
Yes. No Fireply account, X login or extension is required. Media lookups have shared usage limits and can be cached for one hour. GIF conversion takes place on your device and does not use another media lookup.
Can I save a real .gif instead of an MP4?
Yes. Create GIF produces an animated image/gif file with a .gif filename. You can preview the result before downloading it. GIFs have a limited color palette and no audio, so the converted file will differ from the MP4 source.
Does this work on iPhone and Android?
Use a current browser, paste the post link and create your GIF. Tap Download GIF and check your browser’s downloads or Files app. Save and Share controls vary by device. If conversion fails or memory is limited, choose a shorter clip, a smaller source quality and 240 px output, or save the MP4 instead.
Can I turn a Twitter video into a GIF?
Yes. Both animated GIF attachments and supported public video clips can be converted. Choose up to 10 seconds from the source. A longer source is trimmed for GIF export; Save MP4 keeps the complete selected source file and any audio it contains.
What are the size and duration limits?
Each GIF can contain up to 10 seconds at 5, 10 or 15 frames per second, with a longest edge of 240, 360 or 480 pixels. Smaller sources are not enlarged. GIF conversion accepts source MP4 files up to 25 MB and stops if the output exceeds 20 MB. MP4 saving supports up to 100 MB.
Can I download a GIF from a quoted post?
Yes, when the returned post includes the quoted post’s supported media. The editor labels and links the quoted source. For posts with several attachments, choose the one you want before converting.
Why is a GIF not downloading or converting?
The post may be protected, deleted or unavailable to the data source. Your browser may also be unable to decode the source video, or the source may exceed 25 MB. Try a smaller source quality, a shorter clip or Save MP4. An unavailable result does not prove the post has been deleted.
Does the GIF have a watermark or sound?
Fireply adds no watermark. Existing branding in the source stays visible. GIF has no audio track; choose Save MP4 if you need the source video’s sound.
